Once you’ve explored Brabant’s culture and nature, cross the River Maas to discover the beautiful nature reserve in Mook & Middelaar. You can also enjoy a tasty bite to eat in the charming town of Gennep, where there are various activities on offer in the summer.
Horse riding
De Maasheggen Horse Farm is situated directly on a Euregio horse riding route within a UNESCO biosphere reserve. You can ride for kilometres along and across the dyke. Depending on the grazing season, you can even ride your horse through the Maasheggen. Enjoy the surroundings on horseback, whether as a rider or a driver. Within 15 minutes, you can reach ‘De Maasduinen’ National Park with your trailer. The highlights of this area include the ‘Het Quin’ nature reserve, the Broedersbosch or the Zevenboom in Afferden. Alternatively, you could opt for the Hatertse and Overasseltse fenlands, where you’ll ride through a mix of woodland, heathland and along long, winding paths.
Walking
Step out of the door and you’re straight into the UNESCO Maasheggen area, walking alongside the Oeffelt streams, stopping for a break at ‘t Veerhuis, and returning home via De Vilt. You can choose your own mix of nature and culture around Tongelaar Castle, the Sint Anthonis State Forests, the Reichswald, the Nijmegen hills, the fens… there are so many must-see spots and lovely walking trails throughout the Land van Cuijk and the surrounding area! Cuijk station is 7 kilometres away, and the train will take you to Nijmegen or Boxmeer in 10 minutes, or you can walk to picturesque Gennep. Back in Oeffelt in the evening, you’ll be away from the hustle and bustle and can enjoy the peace and space.
Cycling
Road cycling, mountain biking and various cycle tours are all possible. Choose from the extensive cycle network and decide which turn to take at a junction. Fancy an extra loop, or would you prefer a shortcut? Would you like to cycle across the border? Then our border region is the perfect place for you. Swimming & wellness
This region is a real treat for swimming and wellness enthusiasts. The indoor swimming pools at Goch Ness (in Germany), the Heijderbos subtropical water park (Center Parcs), and the swimming pools in Cuijk, Gennep and Uden make for a lovely day out. Saunas and wellness facilities can be found in Nijmegen, Overasselt, on the Wellness Boat in Mill and at Goch Ness (Germany). Open-water swimming is possible at the Kraaijenbergse Plassen lakes around Cuijk and Linden, or at Plasmolen. The little beach at Beers is highly recommended! You can also enjoy a lovely swim at De Bergen leisure park in Wanroij and Hemelrijk in Volkel.
Zoos and amusement parks
The Land van Cuijk region is home to leisure parks for all ages. From the delightful tea garden in Millingen, the War Museum in Groesbeek or Overloon, Tivoli Amusement Park in Berg en Dal, Hemelrijk in Volkel, to Aardbeienland in Horst, or MuZieum in Nijmegen for an experience in the dark.
Love animals? Go on an expedition through ZooParc in Overloon, discover Dierenrijk in Nuenen, Zie-Zoo Animal Park in Volkel or the Butterfly Garden in Gemert. A little further afield: Toverland theme park in Sevenum, Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem and the Efteling in Kaatsheuvel.
Things to do in the area

Other day trips
You’ll find other museums in Cuijk (Museum Ceuclum), Berg en Dal (the Africa Museum), Heilig Landstichting (Museumpark Orientalis) and Nijmegen (a day’s shopping, Het Valkhof and the Velorama National Cycling Museum).
If you prefer to be active, combine your visit with a canoe trip and experience nature from a different perspective, or hire a sailing boat on the Kraaijenbergse Plassen. Visit the Gardens of Appeltern, Outlet Roermond, or lovely towns such as Grave, Nijmegen, Arnhem or Den Bosch. There’s too much to mention.
